The Oregon State Fire Fighters Council recognized Bennett Hartman attorney Nelson Hall at their annual convention. OSFFC President Karl Koenig awarded Hall an honorary white chief’s helmet and recognized him for his decades of service on behalf of firefighters across all of Oregon.
Hall is a long-time advocate for firefighters who develop diseases from work exposures. He was instrumental in drafting the “firefighters’ cancer presumption” legislation which acknowledged the connection between certain cancers and occupational exposures common to firefighting. He also successfully represented the firefighter in SAIF v. Thompson (2016), the seminal Oregon Supreme Court decision that defined how such “presumption” laws operate.
Aside from his work on the firefighters’ presumption laws, Hall has represented hundreds of firefighters and other first responders before the Workers’ Compensation Board and within the City of Portland’s Fire and Police Disability and Retirement system.
